Coalfish on a cold day part 2

Due to winds coming from the north fishing has been difficult to say the least. But i was able to tempt this Coalfish to take my lure a Savage gear gold and yellow sand Eel.The fish put up a good fight and stripped some line off my reel. As with most fish i catch he was released back none the worse off !

I will be getting the rod out tomorrow weather permitting to see whats lurking beneath the waves. Stay safe folks

A Tribute to the fallen and lost sailers.

Far in the background is Skernohan point which claimed the lives of 9 poor souls during a storm. I thought I should remember them so they are never forgotten RIP. 

Brief history of her below. 
 Ship type Coaster - name of vessel- Peridot 

(GPS 54 51.608N 05 45.691W)

Description: The 200 ton coaster Peridot was en route from Scotland to Camlough on 25th November 1905 with a cargo of coal. An easterly gale forced the small coaster to run for the safety of Larne Lough. She foundered on Skernaghan Point at Browns Bay and her entire crew of nine were lost. The vessel had broken in two and was just visible above the waves. The bow section lies approximately 20m to the southwest of the point while the stern section lies to the east of the rock. She is badly broken up with the boiler just below the surface. The bell was recovered by divers in 1995.

Ominous looking sky , you can definitely feel the nip in the air. No Bass today but plenty of Pollock around. Stay safe folks.

Gulp ! 30 foot plus Basking Shark along side my Sea kayak- harmless and great to see.
 

 A rare Sun fish or Moa Moa at the Gobbins Co Antrim , normally a tropical fish but occasionally show up. 

Under water view of this strange looking fish. I believe they eat mostly jellyfish so I’m told.

Another good days Bass fishing

A decent size Bass caught just after high water today. 

 This boyo took another shrimp fly on the bombarda float ! They put up a good account of themselves and stripped a good bit of line from the reel. Quite a enjoyable day. 

Co Antrim Bass fishing

Tried out the Savage gear Panic prey v2 lure and on the 4th cast boom ! They work great. 

Watched this guy take the lure. Looking forward to trying them out again in a day or so. The panic prey lure casts like a dream and floats and moves brilliant in the water. This lure was a 28 gram with 20lb J braid on the reel on a 9.5 foot Penn regiment 2 spinning rod.

Some more lures arrived today to try out. Savage gear lures are fantastic to use and also got two resin shrimps from a guy on ebay to try with the bombarda float. Will keep you posted how they work in a few days time.

Bass and Pollock fishing In Northern Ireland

This is the set up I use quite often. 

The great thing is it ilimitates snags over shallow ground and inables you to cast long distance and put a fly/lure wherever you fancy. I use Bombarda float - 20 gram sinking in calm conditions and move up to 40 gram In windier weather. The line I use is Diawa J braid 8 strand 18lb and it’s very fine and casts a great distance if it’s required, with a fluorocarbon leader 12-20lb same as rod length.
